Thank you for visiting my web site. I am an amateur photographer living in the Chicago area.

When people ask what kind of photography I do, I'm never quite sure what to say. I think of my work more in terms of a style or sensibility than a particular subject matter or theme. The subject so often seems incidental. I'm drawn to the so-called Zen or Japanese aesthetic. In particular, the emphasis on strong, simple forms, meaningful space, and understatement resonate with me. I am also taken with Pictorialism, which I feel shares some of those same attributes, favoring atmosphere over precision, and a suggestiveness beyond the literal. Hawthorne "Nobody, I think, ought to read poetry, or look at pictures or statues, who cannot find a great deal more in them than the poet or artist has actually expressed. Their highest merit is suggestiveness." That transcendent quality is usually an elusive goal for me, but I consider it the heart of what makes photography, and art in general, engaging.
